Main Article Content
Abstract
This research paper discusses measures to address the root causes of child, early and forced marriage, including social norms, gender inequalities, and stereotypes in India. Despite the existence of legal frameworks and policies to protect girls from these harmful practices, child marriage remains prevalent in India due to deeply entrenched social norms and patriarchal attitudes. The paper examines various strategies implemented by the Indian government and civil society organizations to address these root causes, including community mobilization and awareness-raising, education and economic empowerment of girls, and legal and policy reforms. The paper concludes that addressing the root causes of child marriage requires a holistic approach that tackles gender inequality and social norms while ensuring access to education, health services, and economic opportunities for girls and women.
