A Study to Assess the Knowledge Regarding Nursing Profession Among 12th STD Students in Selected Colleges of Pune City

Abstract

Introduction: Nursing is as old as human life itself. The sick and the infirmed had always been tended by family and friends. Nursing is a profession that recalls the name of Florence Nightingale. Indeed, one of the noblest professions in the world, the image of both nurses and nursing as a profession are vital in the successful recruitment and retention of staff in the health care industry. In a society where people are status conscious many a times their choices are influenced by some factors. Thus, students joining the profession are influenced by this negative attitude towards the nursing profession.


Aim of the study: “A study to assess the knowledge regarding nursing profession among 12th std students in selected colleges of Pune city.”


Materials and Methods: In the present study, researcher adopted descriptive research design. It was carried out on 200 samples. The non-probability purposive sampling method was used. Data was collected using demographic profile and knowledge questionnaire. Data analysis was done mainly using descriptive statistics.


Result: The results show that the majority 40.50% had poor knowledge, 38.50% had average knowledge & 21% had good knowledge related to nursing profession in 12th std students. The mean score was 9.98 & S.D was 3.54. There was no association of demographics variables with the knowledge score.


Conclusion: The study concludes that 12th std student’s majority 40% had poor knowledge, so there is the need to create awareness about the nursing profession among students
