Abstract
The purpose of this work is to investigate the cultural significance, symbolic narratives and identity in the folktale of Henjunaha which deeply rooted in Manipur’s cultural context. Using cultural theories of purposed by Stuart Hall, the study looks into how the story reflects and shapes cultural norms, values and identity in the Manipuri community. The analysis also focuses on gender roles, societal expectations and the relationships between folklore and cultural identity. This research utilizes qualitative methods including analysis of the folktale and exploration of relevant cultural artefacts. The study also draws on existing scholarship in cultural studies, folklore studies and Manipuri cultural history. This research employs cultural studies approach considering how the folktale functions as a cultural artefact, reflecting and influencing the cultural identity of the Manipuri community. This research also contributes to a deeper understanding of how folklore serves as a medium for cultural expression and identity formation.
