A Study to Assess the Effect of Health Teaching on Knowledge Regarding Prevention of Torch Infection During Pregnancy among Antenatal Mothers in Selected Rural Area.

Abstract
Background: The maternal infections that are transmissible in utero at several stages of the pregnancy and it can be caused by many organism of which the members of the TORCH complex, namely Toxoplasma Gondi, Rubella, Cytomegalovirus (CMV), the Herpes simplex virus (HSV) 2 occupy prominent position.
Objectives: To assess the effect of health teaching on knowledge regarding prevention of torch infection during pregnancy among antenatal mothers in selected rural area.
Method: Quantitative Research Approach was used. One group pre-test post-test pre-experimental research design was adopted. Independent variable: health teaching program regarding prevention of TORCH infection Dependent variable: knowledge regarding prevention of TORCH infection. The setting of the study was selected rural area. The population of the study was antenatal mothers residing in selected rural area. Sample size of the study 100 antenatal mothers residing in selected rural area. Non-probability purposive sampling technique was adopted for this study. Tool and technique of data collection was divided into two sections. Section A: Structured questionnaire on demographic variables such as Age, Educational status, occupation, gravida (No. of pregnancy), gestational age (in weeks), source of information about TORCH infection, previous history. Section B: Structured knowledge questionnaire to assess the level of knowledge regarding prevention of TORCH infection among antenatal mothers in selected rural area.
Result: The result of the study showed that the in pre-test 29 % of the Antenatal mothers had poor level of knowledge score, 54 % had average level of knowledge score. In post-test 51 % of the Antenatal mothers had good level of knowledge score and 45 % had excellent level of knowledge score.
Conclusion: The knowledge score of the Antenatal mother’s shows marked improvement after giving Health teaching.
